Digestive Enzymes 16-in-1: What's Included and How to Read the Label
Understand what's in a 16-enzyme digestive formula, how to read the label, and who should check with a healthcare professional first.
Digestive enzyme supplements combine several enzymes that help break down different food groups. Our 16-in-1 capsule adds a prebiotic and probiotic blend and a herbal blend. Here's how to read it.
What the capsule contains
- Enzymes (85mg blend): 16 enzymes, including bromelain, amylase, protease, lipase, and lactase, covering protein, carbohydrate, dairy, fibre, and fat.
- Prebiotic and probiotic blend (150mg): inulin, acacia fibre, and three Bacillus strains. Check the CFU amount on the label.
- Herbal blend (150mg): peppermint leaf and ginger root.
Read the probiotic amount carefully
Probiotic counts are given in CFU, which stands for colony-forming units. Check the CFU amount on the label, and compare it with the strains listed. Don't compare CFU numbers across products without checking the strains.
Who should speak with a doctor first
- Anyone with a digestive condition, such as coeliac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, or an allergy to a food or ingredient in the formula.
- Anyone taking medication, particularly blood thinners.
- Pregnant or breastfeeding women.
- Anyone under 18.
Choosing a digestive enzyme supplement
- Check the number and type of enzymes listed.
- Check the probiotic CFU and strains.
- Check the herbal ingredients and any allergens.
- Check the servings per bottle and the cost per serving.
